Clinton is a swing and intraday trader that specialises exclusively in Gold. He could be defined as an Australian trader with a deep passion and love for the markets, but also like a loving son, husband and father of three. Like many of us, his trading career comes after passing through different stages in his life.
At a very young age, Clinton worked at his parent’s coffee shops and restaurants. He then decided to follow his father’s footsteps and major in Architecture. In 2005, after graduating from The University of Queensland, he moved to the UK where he started working at Design Firms.
Clinton later changed his focus to banking and worked for seven years at Lloyds Banking Group. There, he dived deep into the finance world and learned everything about professionalism in that space. After that, he delved into the tech world and worked building startups.
Throughout the years, trading was sort of present in the background, but Clint's trading journey began officially 14 years ago when he attended a seminar that introduced him to the markets. Intrigued, he started a continuous learning process, devouring courses, books, and seminars to expand his knowledge about the markets.
Like most traders when they start, his very first investments in buying stocks were quickly lost. He soon learned that “the statement that you can lose everything is 100% true” but, at the end, it is up to you what you are willing to risk.
Despite having a professional career in various industries, Clinton's pivotal moment came when he received mentorship from Deeyana Angelo, a professional trader. Under Deeyana's guidance, Clinton developed the habits of a professional trader, shaping his weekly and daily routines.
Nowadays, Clinton approaches the markets with a compound mindset that comes from his past experiences. He applies problem-solving skills, methods, and discipline into his trading performance. Recognizing that markets are a map of human emotion and behaviour, he looks for patterns with probability and applies them in a disciplined and methodical way.
Clinton's current trading strategy focuses on one market, Gold, and aims to become a specialist in it.
This quote by Bruce Lee marks Clinton’s trading mindset. He believes in the power of specialisation and recognises the discipline and effort it takes to simplify one’s approach.
His objective is to capture the monthly, weekly, and daily range with meticulous timing and risk management. He employs swing trading techniques, taking positions based on the direction of the market and engaging in intra-day trading.
In our interview with Kieran Duff, he spoke about the importance of developing a strategy that works for each individual trader. He draws inspiration from Warren Buffett's concept of a “circle of competence," advising traders to identify their sweet spot and exercise patience within that area of expertise. He suggests creating a mechanical and repeatable approach that aligns with one's circle of competence.
